Although much of its grandeur has faded, three historic monuments remain: the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Serpentine Column and the Column of Constantine.
2.The Blue Mosque: Marvel at the architectural grandeur of the Blue Mosque, built in the early 17th century. This world-renowned landmark is unique in Istanbul for its six minarets. The mosque takes its name from the 20,000 exquisite blue iznik tiles that adorn its interior. Designed by Sedefkar Mehmet Aga, a student of the famous Ottoman architect Sinan, the Blue Mosque is a perfect blend of majesty, size and harmonious design.
3.Hagia Sophia Mosque: Visit Hagia Sophia, a monumental structure with a storied past. Originally built by Emperor Constantine the Great in 325 AD, it was rebuilt twice after being destroyed by fire, and the current structure was completed by Emperor Justinian I between 532 and 537 AD. For over a millennium, Hagia Sophia was the largest building in the world, until it was surpassed by Seville Cathedral in 1520. After the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople in 1453, it was converted into a mosque and then a museum in 1935.
